Jarê: A religious cult of Caboclos

 

O Jarê Jarê is an African religion existing only in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil.  Its remote origin to the Nagô religious practices, brought by slaves to work in the diamond larvae, around the year 1549, where, gradually, the elements of the enchanted kingdom of the natives and the myths of the cowboys were being assimilated. This syncretism granted Jarê a diversified Peji, where Caboclos, Orixás and Catholic saints share the sacred space of the terreiro
